Carbon tubes across the ocean: order to USA – overseas packaging

When a truck full of carbon tubes for a customer from the USA arrived, it was clear that this was a precision order. Carbon is a lightweight and strong material, but it is also sensitive – any ding, scratch or excessive pressure can damage the pipes.

Arrival and material inspection

After unloading, we performed a quality and dimensional check of the individual bundles. Only then did the pipes go to our warehouse, where we planned the packaging method with regard to sea transportation and the requirements of the American customer.

Two customized crates

For transport, we have prepared two wooden crates, each exactly to the dimensions of a part of the shipment. The construction of certified ISPM 15 wood ensured smooth passage through U.S. customs.
Inside the crate were bracing and soft spacers to prevent movement of the tubes during shipment and protect their surface.

Each bundle of tubes was first wrapped in LDPE film, which provides flexible mechanical protection, protecting the carbon surface from scratches, and also suffices in place of VCI film, as no anti-corrosion protection is required for this material. We have added dryer bags to each crate to maintain an optimal dry climate throughout shipping. In addition, we have used impact indicators and tilt indicators to provide immediate alerts if the crate is jarred or improperly tilted during handling or transport. Finally, the crates have been hermetically sealed and reinforced to withstand all the rigors of sea transport.

The hot boxes were loaded into a shipping container and firmly secured against movement. Each was given export labels, documentation and identification markings. A few days later, the ship sailed from the port of Hamburg and headed across the Atlantic towards the US East Coast.

The ship’s cargo was shipped out of the port of Hamburg.

After a few weeks, the news we like to hear most arrived:
“The shipment arrived in perfect condition.”
