Study case No. 4: Protection of electronics for export to tropical areas * Overseas packaging
Location and field:
Manufacturing company from the South Moravian Region – production of industrial electronics
Problem
The company exported sensitive control units to Southeast Asia. During transport and subsequent storage at the customer’s site, there were repeated problems with humidity:
Although the products were packed in standard cardboard packaging, this did not provide sufficient protection against moisture during long sea transport.
SolutionA comprehensive moisture protection solution has been implemented:
- Use of dryer bags – placed directly into each pack according to volume
- Barrier ALU bags – reduce moisture penetration from the surrounding environment
- Antistatic bags – protect sensitive components from electrostatic discharge during storage and handling
Bentonite desiccant bags actively absorb residual moisture inside the packaging and maintain a stable environment throughout the shipping process.
ResultSignificant improvements have been made following the introduction of the measure:
- elimination of condensation inside the pack
- protection of sensitive electronic components
- reduction of claims by more than 80%
- higher product reliability after installation at customer site
The customer also appreciated the ease of inspection with moisture indicators and the overall more professional level of packaging.
Summary
This case shows that even a relatively simple solution such as desiccant bags can make a big difference to the quality of a delivery. Combined with barrier packaging, they form an effective protective system that minimises the risks associated with moisture – especially when exporting to harsh climates.
